Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) are noninvasive tests that show how well the lungs are working. The tests measure lung volume, capacity, rates of flow, and gas exchange. This information can help your healthcare provider diagnose and decide the treatment of certain lung disorders.
DO’s and Donts’s
- No smoking for four hours before the test.
- No heavy meals. Do not wear any tight clothing, for exercise testing please wear a shirt that buttons up from the front and comfortable shoes.
- The complete pulmonary function test takes around one and a half hours.
